Foster Families: Concrete Commitments Expected During This Election Campaign

Across Quebec, foster families open their homes to children who need stability, safety, and kindness. They play an essential role within the child welfare system, with compassion and dedication, but too often without receiving the recognition, attention, and support they deserve.

Realities That Must Be Part of the Debate

The needs of children placed with foster families are becoming increasingly complex. This evolution requires resources and support commensurate with the responsibilities these families assume. Yet the reality of foster families remains largely absent from electoral debates.

Better support for these families also means better support for the children entrusted to them. It means offering them greater stability, security, and a sense of belonging at pivotal moments in their lives.

A call to all political parties

As the fall 2026 provincial elections approach, FFARIQ calls on the political parties in the race to make youth protection a true priority and to make concrete commitments to recognize and support foster families.

The issues that affect them must not be overlooked or overshadowed by other campaign themes.

Because when we talk about youth protection, we should never forget those at its heart: the children and the families who take them in.
