Commitment

The foster resource must possess a capacity to love unconditionally: they integrate a user into their family by giving them the attention, the understanding and above all the supervision they need while aiming at their return in their environment once or if it is possible. They play a decisive role in the physical, mental and emotional development of the children and accompany them on their path.

They promote the integration of the users into their living environment. The resource considers them and treats them fairly. They offer living conditions that are as close as possible to those of a natural environment. The resource allows the user to be part of its living environment. They encourage them when possible, to have an active and adequate social life.

They make it easier to maintain the links of the user with his / her family, if any, and the significant persons to the child and they are respectful towards them. The resource respects the user’s feelings towards these people and when it is indicated, they encourage the user to keep in touch with them.

They join forces with various stakeholders involved with the users. They keep track of the users’ participation, behavior and needs during their integrating activities with the persons in charge. They transmit relevant observations and participate when necessary in exchanges and discussions.

They collaborate with the institution to improve the situation of the users and help reduce or solve the difficulties observed in the children. They share with the institution any information relevant about the user, in particular the ones that are likely to make changes in the evaluation of the users’ condition and the services to be rendered. They participate in processes to improve the quality of services offered by the institution.

The family must demonstrate respect, sensitivity and emotional balance. They must have an active listening ability and know how to convey moral values such as respect for others, integrity, frankness and honesty.

They must show discernment, flexibility, firmness, initiative, intellectual and moral honesty and confidentiality.

They must be highly available and willing to work in partnership with all stakeholders. The foster family must be able to accept and adapt to the changing reactions of the user who can go through periods of intense instability.

COMPENSATION

The resource receives a basic daily compensation based on the age of the child and may receive additional compensation depending on the level of services required. They may also receive special compensation regarding, for example, transport provided for the user and required by the intervention plan. CONFIDENTIALITY

Among the responsibilities of the family-type resource, it is mentioned in the contract that they must: "Respect the confidentiality of all information concerning the placed users and their family situation. "

Needless to say, the resource cannot spread the life experiences of the users. They cannot talk about their family situation either. What has happened or is happening in the biological family must remain strictly confidential. The neighbors, the entourage do not have to know the reasons why the users are placed.

Concerning the school, it is important that the teacher or those who intervene be informed in order to help them in their intervention. However, not all details need to be disclosed.

Also, as of now, the resource receives much more information about the users, which allows them to better take action. But be careful, it requires to be discreet! If you have any concerns, you can talk to your social worker. They should provide you with tools on how to inform your entourage about the specific challenges you face as a foster, while keeping confidentiality.

The foster home cannot, at any time, give the authorization to grant an interview, a television report or to film a child of which they are in charge. They must notify the social worker as soon as they know that a child may be identified publicly.

The resource must be vigilant about social networks: when browsing on Facebook or Twitter, be careful not to break confidentiality by posting photos or mentioning the names of your foster children.
