Laurent Commission : And after?
Journalist Charlotte Glorieux took an interest in the issue of foster family salaries, wondering, among other things, whether helping children is a source of income.
In the interview, our president, Mélanie Gagnon, pointed out that "a foster family is a family of the heart." Thus, although the funds allocated for foster children are often insufficient to meet certain needs, such as consulting a private professional because the public service cannot meet the demand, families will cover these costs.
Ms. Gagnon testified to the reality of children who arrive in foster care with a very difficult past. A foster family takes in the child with all of their history and watches over them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This role is more of a vocation than a simple job.
These children's stories often touch the heart, and foster families must remain strong in the face of the experiences some children have endured. Fortunately, the FFARIQ is a place of support and comfort. "We offer active listening. If a family comes to me and confides that they are struggling, I ask them if they have called on our services. Foster families talk to each other a lot."
