Creation of a Commissioner for Children's Welfare and Rights
The FFARIQ welcomes Bill 37 tabled by the Minister responsible for Social Services, Lionel Carmant, which creates the position of Commissioner for Children's Welfare and Rights.
This action by the Minister is in response to a long-standing request by the FFARIQ, which was one of the points raised when we appeared before the Laurent Commission.
In its report, published in April 2021, the commission considered many of the suggestions made by the FFARIQ, in particular by recommending the place of such a child protector.
We now hope that the latter can count on the necessary resources and a broad mandate to promote and ensure the well-being of all children and respect for their rights.
But let's not forget that the well-being and safety of children is the shared responsibility of those around them.
