Our president, Mélanie Gagnon, took advantage of the symbolic gesture of a balloon release.
"Why releasing balloons? Because they represent childhood. At children's parties, there are balloons. And sometimes a clown. And I have to tell you, sometimes you feel like a clown when you're trying to emphasize the importance of your role", mentions Ms. Gagnon.
Thousands of children in Quebec need solid support to help them stand on their own two feet. The government's desire to bring child and adult foster families under the same collective agreement deprives them of care, deprives them of the opportunity to spread their wings, to be free. Children have needs that only a foster family can provide: affection, tenderness, peace of mind.
By making this gesture of unity, we have shown that there is a large number of people behind the negotiating committee that is appearing before the Ministry. And that we are united in our demands, which are more than legitimate.
Ms. Régine Laurent said that it takes a village to raise a child. Foster families are important members of that village. They are an essential service that must be recognized for its true worth. Without them, the children of the DYP would all be in youth centers.

We also handed out heart-shaped buttons representing the foster families, kind-hearted people who take in the frayed little hearts to give them security, freedom and the guidance they need to regain their self-confidence. Foster families are an essential service for today's little ones, tomorrow's adults. That's what this badge is all about.
At the FFARIQ, you're part of the family. A large organization made up of foster families. A family that benevolently supports and accompanies you.
Joining the FFARIQ means uniting the strengths of families with heart. It's a proud affirmation of the important role foster families play in the lives of DYP children.
Over the past 50 years, the FFARIQ has seen the DYP faced with ever-increasing challenges and mandates, without being able to ensure better protection for our children. For the FFARIQ, there is one constant throughout its evolution: YOU and the CHILDREN are at the heart of the actions of the FFARIQ, THE ONLY organization dedicated solely to foster families.
We protect our families just as our families protect the children entrusted to their care.
